The annual races!! 7/4/2009

We headed over to Washington park for the festivities, I look forward to going every year. This year was oddly quiet. There were not nearly as many people there as in years past. We met Jen, Shandon, and Jaxon at the park and munched on snow cones while we waited for the races to start!
Shandon looked so cute getting Jaxon pumped up for his race! And the look of determination on Jaxon's face is priceless! Jaxon took 2nd place winning a dollar-way to go big boy!

Next up Koda Bear! I have never seen a kid so happy to run a race-he smiled the entire stretch! He ended up taking 3rd-winning a fifty cent piece-which he thought was much better than a dollar!

Then it was time for our little speed demon Bailia! She took this race seriously-no smiling for her until after she ran! Bailia took 1st place winning two dollars!
Finally it was Jaden's turn. He looked ready to win from the get go. We never knew Jdog had so much speed in him! As the girl that handed him his two dollar first place prize she said-You smoked them out there!
The kids with their winnings! What a fun day! They can't wait for the fireworks tonight!

But wait, what's this? That's right, we talked Adam into running the race! The kids were so excited that we were able to convince him to run! Before going down to the starting line he said I just don't want to hurt myself. Come on, I urged, you will be fine!
On your mark, get set, GO! Off to a good start-he is going to take first or second easily! Then I see him give it a little more gas right before the finish line-then as quickly as he started, he stopped and fell to his knees maybe two steps before the finish line...He had pulled a muscle. So funny, yet so sad at the same time! So close, yet so far away! I am glad he had the courage to do it-I never in a million years would have! And there is always next year...

Congrats to your speedy little runners. We usually try to make it up there for the parade and games, but this year was a little crazy!
