A Vacation Post Overload! 2/28/2010

I hadn't planned on going to Jaden's Ogden meet, but he has been working so hard trying to get better, that we decided to go. Then I decided to make a mini vacation out of the trip.
It was so nice to get away from the daily grind. I didn't have time to do as much as I thought I would, everything that we did took much longer than I thought it would. Staying at the museum for SIX hours wasn't planned, but in the end it turned out better that way. Less running around meant more relaxation time for me.
It is funny how a vacation can be so relaxing, yet so tiring at the same time, I am exhausted! We are glad to be home, but I am not looking forward to my 6:00 A.M. internal alarm clock going off in the morning telling me that the daily duties are calling my name!

The Discovery Museum at the Gateway was a big hit with my kids. I had planned on staying an hour or two, but the kids had so much fun we were there for more than six hours! We arrived right before it opened and saw school buses pulling in, there were three schools there for a field trip. It was a mad house the first hour we were there, but once they left it was great! I sat there looking at the mess the school kids had left behind-disgusted that the teachers didn't have the kids clean up after themselves. I was about to get up and start cleaning when Bailia walked over and started organizing and picking up all of the paper. Why would kids leave such a mess she asked? It is funny that she likes things so clean, yet she is a slob at the same time!
I had to drag Jaden away from the magnetic wall ball run-he wanted to use all of the tubes, trying to get it perfect, he spent a good two hours on that wall! Koda loved the water station filling the water tube up, dumping it out, and repeating the process 2867 times! I don't know if Bailia had a favorite station, she loved everything she touched!

Mrs. Pentico just happened to be in Ogden this weekend for her son's college rugby game. She had told Jaden she wanted to come to his meet, I assumed that she had just told him that to make him feel good. Then on Saturday I received a text from her asking what time his meet started! When Jaden saw her sitting there with me (her daughter in law even came) he got a big smile and waved! She made him feel SO special! Now you can see why Jaden loves her so much. Not only is she a wonderful educator, she actually cares for her students. She makes them feel important, and her students love her just as much as she loves them! Mrs. Pentico will be one of those teachers that Jaden will remember forever! It's no wonder Bailia wants her for her 4th grade teacher next year!

After staying in Bountiful for the first two nights, we wanted to stay in Orem the last night. I like to be as close to home as I possibly can on my last night when I travel. I had Adam get me a hotel on Priceline and he won the Best Western in Provo.
I knew the area, and figured it would be fine. When we pulled in at 8:00 that night we were surprised at how DARK it was. Creepy dark. There were trees everywhere and the parking lot was completely dark. I usually don't get too nervous traveling alone, but when we got out of the truck we practically ran to the entry!

We walked in to check in and the guy looks up our information on the computer.
Oh, I see that you used priceline, he said kind of snobbish.
Is that a problem, I asked him?
Well were you expecting two beds?
Does the king room have a pullout?
No.
Then a double would be great.
Well usually when you book on priceline (acting as if I had got the room for free-I still paid $50 for this dive) we just give you a king room, but luckily for you I have a double room available, he said-as if the hotel were packed. The parking lot had maybe ten cars in it!
Oh good, I said trying to be as chipper as possible, trying not to say something rude.
He gave us our room keys and we headed down the very dark outdoor hallway. We walk in to our room, and see stuff everywhere. Make-up and a curling iron on the bathroom counter, luggage and clothes everywhere (are people really that messy when they travel?)!
We walk back to the front desk to tell them of their mistake.
Are you sure it is occupied, the gentleman that thinks he is working at the Four Seasons asks.
Well the room had stuff everywhere, so I am pretty sure it is occupied.
Acting as if I had put him out, he quickly gave us a different room.
Lesson learned-we will NEVER stay at the Best Western in Provo again! I paid $36 for our hotel in Bountiful and we LOVED it-and they didn't treat me any differently because I had won it on priceline! Obviously it wasn't the Four Seasons, or even the Marriott, so it's not like I am expecting the royal treatment, but SERVICE will either make or break your stay! Bountiful made our stay great, Provo-not so great! Be glad we only stayed in Provo for the night!

574 Pop Tabs...2/24/2010

Jaden wanted Kenna to come over and play after school today (with his strict schedule he doesn't get to play very often and he is taking every advantage of play time this week with the SEP early out) when I picked them up from school I asked them if they wanted to head over to Wendy's.
We haven't been to Aunt Wendy's to collect her pop tabs for almost three months now! Where the time goes I will never know! They all wanted to go so we headed over.
The kids went through the first huge bag pretty quick, then the animals started calling their names! I couldn't blame them, I gave them my camera and told them to go play and take lots of pictures, while I took off the tabs from the soda cans from the next two bags. My fingers are so sore, but they did come back to help smash the cans, and load them back into the bags.
We were amazed that we collected 574 tabs!

Little Miss Messy...2/23/2010

Yesterday I went to Bailia's SEP meeting at school. Everything went great, she is above grade level in almost every subject. Mrs. Tsosie said that if she wasn't above grade level in a subject, it was because she wanted to rush through the test and wouldn't read through the question well enough. She said that in all of her years of teaching she has never had a child like Bailia. She believes that Bailia is "gifted" and can't wait to see if she is right after they test her next month!
Bailia truly is one of a kind!
Then Mrs. Tsosie asked Bailia to get her word study notebook, so that she could show off her work. Bailia got up, and then didn't know what to do.
Do you not know where you put it, is it in your desk, I asked her?
Bailia's face went red as she asked Mrs. Tsosie which word study book she wanted her to get.
Oh no, I thought, this can't be good!
I want her to see the old one, Mrs. Tsosie said, with a smile on her face, and a giggle in her voice.
Bailia walks over to Mrs. Tsosie's desk and picks up a pile of mutilated papers, and plops it down in front of me.
What is this I ask?
It turns out that USED to be her word study notebook! The cover just fell off today, so I had to get a new notebook, she said as casually as she could.
The cover fell off? It looks like someone attacked the poor notebook, I squealed!
Mrs. Tsosie, laughing through all of this said, I didn't know if I should keep it for my own scrapbook, or if I should give it to you!
Bailia shouts out NO don't give it to her, she will put it on the blog! Mom PLEASE don't put it on the blog!
I am sorry, but this is something that we need to remember. One day we will look back through this scrapbook and laugh.
You might show your husband and laugh at how you used to be. You may show your children and say, even though you are just like I used to be, you will turn out just fine! You may even show your fellow brain surgeon
colleagues, and laugh at the fact that someone SO intelligent can be such a slob!
Whatever you do with the pictures is up to you. I know that I will cherish them forever, knowing that you are so much like your momma it is scary. Being so alike makes us butt heads like no other! I drive you crazy, and you drive me crazy. I love you more than you know, and I know (hope) this is just a phase! Your dad always says that if you turn out anything like your mom you will be fine. I am glad I still have him fooled! Hopefully he never looses his rose color glasses...

The Birds and the Blankets! 2/21/2010

We have had a lot of rainy days the past few weeks. I have actually enjoyed them, most of the time. I figure if it is going to be cloudy, it might as well rain!
Rain also makes me in the mood for soup. Oh how I LOVE soup! I think tomorrow calls for another batch of spicy chicken tortilla soup for dinner! YUM!

Bailia has been learning about the Inca's at school. Mrs. Tsosie taught her how to weave like the Inca's did many years ago, and she has been talking about it ever since. Bailia has BEGGED me to let her make a full size blanket for me at home for the past week. A rainy day is a perfect day for weaving, it kept her busy for HOURS! But when it came down to it, she realized a full size blanket would take forever, so she decided to make a foot/hand blanket for me instead. I think it turned out really nice, and it actually kept my hands nice and toasty! :)

While Bailia weaved her blanket, the boys painted bird houses. As soon as they were finished we filled them with bird seed and set them outside. Within minutes birds were EVERYWHERE! We all sat and watched them eat from the window. Jdog said~I bet the birds are in heaven with all of that free food! Koda replied with~ I didn't know we get free food in heaven!
