This week has been an emotional week, filled with such "proud parent" moments. Kenna made the comment to me at the first meet that made me feel good-she said-Marcia, it is kind of like you have more than just your own kids isn't it? It really is! Being a primary teacher to a lot of Jdog's friends brought me a lot closer than I thought it would to so many kids, and I am so proud of them! The week started out with my good friends daughter running the 400m race. She knew she couldn't win the shorter races, and she wanted to challenge herself so she signed up for the longest race! She ran like a champion, and even though she didn't win, and ran over the finish line with her friends cheering her on, then straight into her proud momma's arms! Talk about an impressive ten year old-I love and admire you Miss Kate! Then it came time for the second track meet yesterday. I love Jaden, and his group of friends. They love each other and support each other just as friends should. As Kenna ran the 50m race, the kids cheered her on, congratulating her at the end of the race after she came in 2nd place, qualifying for the Hershey Track Meet! Then it was Jaden's turn to run the 400m again. He ran a good race, and came in 4th place, with friends cheering him on and telling him how good he did, making him feel like a winner! Brock told him that he ran an awesome race, and Kenna told him that he is the fastest runner she knows, even though the kid that took 1st is in their class! True friends are hard to find. I am so glad that Jaden has a group of friends that are honestly outstanding individuals! Then as I stood with Jaden, Kenna, Brock, and a few other kids, a girl ran over to the group. Someone asked this girl if she had seen how well so&so had ran-the girl responded with a bratty "Like I care"! I wanted to slap the child, but the kids in J's group just ignored her snotty comment and went on talking about how great this person had ran! After the meet I asked J how he felt about his race. His response made me proud to be his mom. He said, Well, at last year's track meet I didn't even place. This year at the first race I came in 7th in the whole school, and at today's race I took 4th. So I am getting better every time I run-I bet by next year I will be even better!Obviously it is hard to lose, it is not something one would chose to do. But I am so proud that my kids can lose, as well as they win-most of the time! Self improvement is the key to life. If we are just sitting idle and not trying to better ourselves what good are we? It is funny how much we learn from our children. Jaden's comment was so simple, yet so profound! You will always be a champion in my eyes Jdog, I strive to be just like you!

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I needed to sit and do nothing! Things have been SO busy lately I needed an excuse to just sit. I decided to take the kids out for a picnic. We loaded everything up and headed out. We settled on a nice flat boulder overlooking the beauty that we live in. It was so relaxing! We were almost done eating when I looked up and saw a truck coming up the way. Weird I thought to myself, that looks like a sheriff. We finished eating and sure enough when I looked back again there was a sheriff parked next to our four wheelers. I couldn't figure out what he would be doing out in the middle of nowhere, and for a split second I thought a certain someone must have called the cops on me...Sorry, I just couldn't resist! It is an inside joke that will no doubt, live on forever! The sheriff sat by our stuff for a good 15-20 minutes. Finally the curiosity killed this cat, and we walked down to see what he wanted. It turns out we were breaking every law imaginable, out in the middle of nowhere! Here is how our run in with the law went down... Can I see your license Ma'am? Officer Nothing Better to Do, asked me. I am in the boonies, I didn't know I needed to carry ID! Yes, you actually do. I have my drivers license number memorized if that will work, I told him. That will be great, plus I need your full name, and date of birth. Wow, I didn't know a mom and her three kids having a picnic could be such a serious crime, I thought to myself. Also your dog needs to be on a leash. You have got to be kidding me, I said getting annoyed. I am out in the wilderness, with no one around, and my dog needs to be on a leash? Well Ma'am, once you step over the turtle fence all animals must be on a leash to protect the wildlife, and vegetation. You were also violating the trail law, that states that in the reserve areas you must stay on the trail at all times. But feel free to stay on this side of the turtle fence and your dog can roam free, and you don't have to stay on the designated trails! So you are telling me that once I step over this little twelve inch magic fence, if I step off of the trail, and climb on to a boulder to enjoy a picnic with my kids I will be fined? Well, not this time, I can see that you didn't know the rules, so I am just going to write you up with a warning. After he explained a few more measly things that we were unknowingly doing wrong, he climbed back in to his truck to write up my warning ticket.Thank you officer, you're too, too kind. Since I broke every law imaginable, that comment is only half sarcastic.Thank you animal rights activist, I admire how much you control America. Since I find the turtle fences and their "laws" completely insane, the above comment is totally sarcastic. What happened to Land of the FREE, home of the brave!?!We have lived in the Green Springs area for eight years now. We have seen PLENTY of tortoises, all of which were on the WRONG side of the turtle fence, and a few were even on the main road! Good job animal rights activists, you are really keeping the turtles safe! Note the sarcasm once again! We didn't let Officer Too Big for His Britches ruin our day, we drove down and played in the sand for another three hours!
