The story of the pajamas.
So for his birthday this year, he wanted new satin pj's. Easy enough, right? Wrong! First, finding a seamstress is harder than it sounds. Well we finally found a lady that had "35 years experience" she is about 40 years old, so she has been sewing all of her life. Or so she says.
We contacted her, and she said that she would be happy to make them. She said that she charged $18 per hour, and that we would need to provide everything. Material, pattern, buttons, elastic, thread, etc. We bought everything we would need, and took it over to her. I asked her how much she thought it would be, and she said she didn't know. I said well since the pattern says "simple" on it, then it shouldn't take too long right? She said probably not.
Fast forward a week and a half, I finally get a call from her telling me that she had been busy, but had finished one pair. She wanted to let me know that it had taken her ten hours, and that she was just getting started on the 2nd set.
Excuse me?
Let me do the math here.
You charge $18.00 per hour, you are sewing a simple pull on pant, with a button down top, you have 35 years experience, you had me buy all of the materials ($50) and you think that I am honestly going to pay you $180.00 for a pair of pajamas for an eight year old? I think not!
We are all still baffled by this entire experience. She kept telling us that she does excellent work, and that she is well worth the &180 price. Adam asked her if she had any common sense whatsoever, because at some point it should have kicked in and said HELLO!! I don't think anyone would pay $200 for a pair of pajamas, maybe I should call and tell them it is taking longer than planned! Before hanging up with the lady Adam offered her $100~just so that we felt like we were offering something. She said no way and hung up on him!
So we were back to square one. I decided to try it out myself. I went and re-bought all of the supplies and got to work, using Bailia's $80 sewing machine. Keep in mind that I can hand stitch a quilt, and have done a few things on a sewing machine, but I have NEVER made an article of clothing. I made the first pair of bottoms in about an hour. The second pair of bottoms took 40-45 minutes. They may not be perfect, but Koda LOVES them, and that is really all that matters!
So for a person that has "35 years experience" to tell me that it took TEN hours to make one set? It has to be a lie.
