Well Kate knew exactly what she wanted to do to help~have a bake sale! So, she suggested it to her mom, who is also known as Super Woman, and the planning started.
Jill is the master of all things, and everything she does is incredible. Signs were made, posters printed, and goodies were made. There were treats donated by all of the moms of kids that helped with the fund raiser, along with a goodies from others that didn't have kids helping. We had three giant tables overflowing with treats, and more in the garage!
The fund raiser was about to start and excitement was in the air. I was shocked at how many treats we had, and it made me feel so warm inside, knowing that there still are good people in the world. But I had no idea what was about to happen . . .
The fund raiser was supposed to start at 3:00, but cars started pouring in at 2:45! The goodies were flying off of the tables, and the cars kept coming. Even the UPS man stopped to donate, and he didn't even want a snack! Jaden and Kaden spent most of the time on the corner of the main road with their banners, letting people know about the bake sale. The girls took charge of the selling, and restocking of the goodies. The moms chatted together and sat back in awe watching everything unfold. We closed shop about a half an hour early. It was starting to get cold, and we only had a handful of cookies left.
We cleaned up, and headed inside to see how much money we had all raised. We dumped out the jar, which held quite a few bills. I was hoping to get to $500, Ashley thought if we got $500-600 it would be great, and Jill thought if we could possibly get to $1000 it would be awesome!
Well, it turns out none of us were right. We counted to five hundred, then six, then one thousand, then twelve hundred. It was getting hard to count with the tears in our eyes. People were SO generous, it was overwhelming. We ended count at $1621.01, then with Jill's donation, we ended up at an even $1700.00!
Seventeen hundred dollars.
From a neighborhood bake sale.
Put into motion by a ten year old girl.
Incredible.
People actually do want to do good, they just need an opportunity given to them sometimes to prove it. The kids were beyond excited. The adults were extremely humbled.
It was such a great experience for all of us. I am especially grateful to be friends with such wonderful people, who lift me up more than they know. I don't know what I would do without them!
