King Mouse-a-Roid...reader discretion advised~6/11/2010

Remember the 31 mice we caught on our patio last summer? You know, the mice that gave Harley worms? Well at the time, I thought that was the most disgusting thing ever, and yesterday things became even worse!
After Adam mowed the lawn Thursday morning, he sprayed the back patio off with the hose. While doing so a mouse ran out from hiding and Adam somehow smashed it~gross I know. But the story is going to get even more disgusting~so those with a weak stomach~stop reading now.
Adam came in and said it is time to set the mouse traps again, so he set two out on the patio that night. The next morning I went out to check if we had caught anything. One of the mouse traps wasn't where he had set it! Strange, I thought to myself, and then I heard THE noise. It was a noise I had heard before, one that makes my insides squirm. It was the sound similar to the that of a cockroach trying to flip back on to its stomach, when it has flipped onto its back, just magnified one thousand times. Even though I am mortified by that sound, I had to look to see where the noise was coming from.

There, sitting under the lounge chair, was a GIANT mouse trying to escape from the trap! This was not a typical mouse, it was a mouse on steroids, or a rat/mouse breed, or maybe even a rabbit/rat mix!
Okay, so that last one may be a bit of an exaggeration, but I am not kidding when I say it is the BIGGEST mouse I have ever seen. And to make matters worse, it was still ALIVE!! How in the world could it still be alive? The mousetraps that we have kill the mice almost instantly!!
I ran in to get Adam to have him...take care of it. He thought I was just being dramatic, and came outside to check it out. At that point he may have sounded like a girl for 2.7 seconds, but let's keep that on the down low!
Adam grabbed a BB~gun and shot it.
It didn't die.
It took three BB's and clunk on the head for this creature to die!

I think I am going to be sick all over again...
Note to self: The flowers on the scrapbook page do not make the mouse any less disgusting! Nice try.

Later that day Koda went out to our putting green to practice. I went out with him and found this little bird trapped in a mouse trap, trying to escape! I quickly released it and took it inside. The poor thing was exhausted.
The kids sang to her, cuddled with her, gave her food and water, built her a nest, and talked to her, telling her she was going to be alright.
Sometimes that is all one needs in life, a little encouragement, telling us not to give up! She wanted to just lay down and go towards the light, but she never gave up, or maybe the kids just never let her give up. Either way after a good hour, or more, she finally had enough strength to fly away! It was a great ending to a very sad start.
The mouse traps will now be placed in discreet places, that hopefully birds will not find!
