We love the outdoors-and spend a lot of time doing anything possible outside! Last summer we went hiking through the sand dunes/desert hill that is our backyard. Here are a few shots of one of our adventures where we found "Dorothy" and her un-named boyfriend! It was hard for me not to laugh as the kids came up with their version of what happened to Dorothy and her boyfriend as they found "her hand and bones" and her "boyfriends glove". Here is a condensed version of what they think happened. In a very small cave there was a piece of wood sticking out that looked very similar to old bones (my kids still think it is Dorothy’s Hand) and that is what they spotted first. Then they saw Dorothy’s name carved into the rock just above the little cave, at that point they were convinced that was Dorothy under the rock. About 10 feet away they found a few bones (animal bones) and a few feet from that was THE GLOVE! So here is what happened to Dorothy- She came out here to meet her boyfriend to have a picnic March 27, 1929, it was an unusually hot day and after carving her name into the rock it was too hot to carve her boyfriends name so they decided to get under the shelter of the rock cave to eat their lunch. The rock smashed them both as they were eating and the weight of the rock made the bones and the glove fly out landing near the cave.
Over Presidents day we went out again and the boys wanted to go visit Dorothy but Bailia wanted NOTHING to do with it-she is too scared to even go near there now!!The imagination of a child is so interesting and I will always remember our Dorothy hike.
